As you draft the Radiological Protection Education and Training for Healthcare Staff and Students it might be interesting to note that - in addition to the stationary, mobile, and portable class of x-rays - a new class has been recognized, that is handheld. (See Suggest State Regulations for the Control of Radiation [Part F Appendix B @ http://www.crcpd.org/SSRCRs/F-Part%202009.pdf] which is maintained by the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors and http://www.fda.gov/downloads/MedicalDevices/DeviceRegulationandGuidance/GuidanceDocuments/ucm094346.pdf.) The first requirement is that, “Operators of hand-held intraoral dental radiographic units shall be specifically trained to operate such equipment.” As the pioneer in handheld x-ray Aribex has partnered with state regulators in the creation of training materials for our line of handheld x-rays. This training is contained on a CD which we would be happy to share with you as you develop your program. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance. Warm Regards, Reed W.
